Zugdidi is a city in Georgia, located 327 km from Tbilisi, in the Samegrelo region, in western Georgia. Capital of Mingrelia and Upper Svaneti since the 19th century, the city was the seat of the powerful Dadiani dynasty. The name Zugdidi, created in the 17th century, means "great hill" in Mingrelian.

Today it is a lush locality where life flows at a pleasant pace. Houses are lined with large gardens planted with palm trees and other subtropical plants. It is all the more enjoyable to visit thanks to its excellent geographic position, at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains.

Climate in Zugdidi

Zugdidi enjoys a warm and temperate climate. Summers are long and hot, with generally clear skies throughout the city. Winters are extremely cold, with partially cloudy skies and rain. Throughout the year, temperatures generally oscillate between 2°C and 28°C. They rarely drop below -2°C and seldom exceed 32°C.

The warm season lasts from May 31 to approximately September 20, with average maximum temperatures above 24°C.* The cool season begins on November 28 and ends on March 13. The average daily maximum temperature is around 12°C.

Tbilisi to Zugdidi:

All trains connect Tbilisi directly to Zugdidi, departing from Tbilisi's Didube station to Zugdidi train station. Train services operate daily, with two departures per day. If you choose a minibus, no shared minibuses operate directly between Tbilisi and Zugdidi. Minibus services from Didube station make stops in Borjomi and Kutaisi. Thus, the journey takes approximately 8 hours, including connections.

Batumi to Zugdidi:

No direct train service connects Batumi and Zugdidi. However, services are available from Batumi to Zugdidi, with connections at Ureki and Samtredia. The journey takes approximately 5 hours 45 minutes, including these stops.

The minibus is the most expensive transport option from Batumi to Zugdidi. The journey takes 3 hours, including transfer time, for 24.93 lari. However, the minibus is more convenient, as it allows direct connection between the two cities.

Shared minibuses serve these two cities daily, with 3 minibuses per day. And for those wishing to reach Zugdidi more quickly from Batumi, taking a taxi is ideal. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes.
